All you really need is your beautiful self! Don’t worry about what underwear you have on, the only requirement is that you have a pair of pants on! You won’t need to wear a bra on your wedding day, but if you’d feel more comfortable leaving your bra on for your fitting then a strapless one is the most useful.
If you have particular shoes you want to try on with your favourite dress then you’re welcome to bring them, but shoes are really only necessary when you go and see your seamstress for alterations, where your dress will be shortened to the correct length.
Please try to keep make-up to a minimum and avoid fake tan before your appointment to help keep the dresses at their best.
A second opinion can be really useful to help you make such an important decision, but focus on quality over quantity. It’s easy to get carried away trying to involve lots of other people but that can also make your dress shopping journey much more complicated. Just remember that you can have a hundred other opinions about a dress, but the most important thing is how you feel in it!
To keep your appointment comfortable rather than overwhelming you are kindly asked to keep numbers to a maximum of the bride plus three guests. Wi-Fi is available should you wish to include others virtually.
I totally understand sorting out childcare can be a real pain, however where possible I would highly recommend leaving any little ones at home. Whilst they may be very excited about your upcoming wedding, it’s typical to find after a while they can become bored and wanting attention, when really all the focus should be on you choosing your dream dress! Although babies in buggies are a little easier, if they start to get uncomfortable or even turn to tears, this will naturally be a distraction for you and you may find yourself rushing or cutting your appointment short. If you do need to bring little ones with you then please ensure you have at least one other adult on hand to help keep them happy and entertained.
Of course! I will never push a bride into committing to a dress when she’s not ready to do so. The only important thing to remember is that if it’s an off the peg dress, there’s usually only one available so if you don’t take it then another bride might snap it up!
Whilst I don’t offer an in house service, you’ll be provided with details of experienced seamstresses in various locations for any alterations you may need. Please note alterations are not included in the price of the dress and will need to be paid for separately, directly to your chosen seamstress.
Off the peg dresses – payment is taken in full and you take your dress home the same day!
Made to order dresses – 50% of the total price will be required for the dress to be ordered. The remaining balance is due on collection.
Payment can be made by cash, debit/credit card or bank transfer.

If you choose a made to order dress, it means it will be made specifically for you! At your appointment you will have tried on a sample dress and if that is the style you love, measurements will be taken to agree sizing and an order will be placed with the designer.
It is important to note that made to order does not mean made to measure. Your measurements will be compared to the designer’s size chart and you will be advised on the best size to order. Alterations with a bridal seamstress will usually still be required for the perfect final fit.
Off the peg means you take the dress you try on, instead of a new one being made for you. It will have been designed and supplied by a wedding dress designer, but it is likely someone else will have already tried it on. None of the dresses at Townhouse Bridal are pre-loved or have already been altered.
Off the peg wedding dresses could be ex sample, discontinued styles or simply excess stock. They are also the perfect opportunity to save money and bag yourself a bargain!
Don’t worry if a dress isn’t the right size. A seamstress can make a wedding dress smaller by around two sizes, so it can still be adjusted to fit you like a glove. If you love a dress that’s a little too small, there are sometimes ways around this too which we can discuss during your appointment.
